This is a poem I wrote and copyrighted back in 1987. The reasons for the poem is because I was moving away from an area I had lived and grown up in for 25 years. As I reflected on the thought of moving and the many friends I had made and would be leaving behind, it made me realize the value of true friends and as I thought about my friends I came to this conclusion. Every year you make new friends but if you stand at the end of 10 or 15 years and think about all those friends you made, most of them had become distant but a small handful of friends had been there the full 15 years. I wanted to make a card that would reflect my thoughts to my friends. I named the poem, “True Friends”.
True Friends
I hate to leave good friends behind
though friends I’ll find anew,
but friends we find are not all kind,
Time carries true friends through.
So when I find new friends of mine
are not so tried and true,
I’ll seek a comfort from inside
I’ll simply think of you.

I had cards professionally made with a photograph of a sunset I had taken on the front, and this poem was on the inside.
